Let There Be Peace On Earth

A few weeks ago, I sat with 2,500 people in Kalamazoo, MI., and listened to the critically acclaimed musical duo The War and Treaty with the Kalamazoo Concert Band. The last song they sang was Let There Be Peace on Earth. It was moving.

Later that night, I thought more about the song and felt I understood what it was saying for the first time.

LET there be peace on earth. LET, as in don't stop it from happening. LET, as in you are either bringing peace or disrupting it.

It got me thinking about what I could do to LET there be peace on earth.

What if?

What if instead of disagreeing with someone on a topic or subject, I simply said to myself, "Let there be peace of earth."

What if I saw a post on social media I took issue with, or I came upon an argument between people, and I said, "Let there be peace on earth."

What would it do?

What if I said it ten times, a hundred times, or a hundred thousand times with sincere and gentle kindness to myself and others? Would it sink in?

What if I got others to say it and believe it?

"Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me."

Let it begin with me bringing peace to my life and my environment. Everything starts small. If you keep working at it, it grows.

Everything about Everything

I can't do everything about everything in the world, but I can do something about me and the areas I inhabit.

A feeling of relief came over me, when I realized I could apply this message: "Let there be peace on earth.” It's a powerful statement because it is the truth. Deep inside everyone wants peace and it is the only way we will make it.

I know this is not a "This will solve every problem in the world tomorrow" solution, but it is a way to bring calm. It's a way to give myself and others something we can do to forward peace and not contribute to chaos.
